happy birthday, maurice sendak

If you noticed the Google Doodle today, you'd know it would've been Maurice Sendek's 83rd Birthday.
Originally, I was going to post an interview or a classic reading of Sendek's landmark creation, Where the Wild Things Are. However, I found this. Christopher Walken reading the popular children's book. This will be your best laugh of the day. Or maybe, even week.

"And now", cried Max, "Let he wild rumpus start!".

happy 20th anniversary 680news

...And I thought 680 was just doing a really long 68-second news break. 20 years ago today, my life changed. I learned about that my love was a business. I learned that music wasn't working on the AM dial. The top 40 music leader in the city flipped to all-news. The format has been highly successful with the station only making a few tweaks over the years.

There isn't a day that I tune into 680 without doing a boisterous, 680 C-F-T-R call thinking I'm introducing a Duran Duran or Madonna tune. Happy 20th, 680 News. You've done well.

paradise - city and colour

Spent the good part of my Sunday fixing my dish washer and realizing that my dryer might be my next opponent. In  the background, keeping my ears ringing and my head forming great mental visuals, was the new City and Colour album, The Hurry and the Ham. Now on his  forth project, Dallas returns with a sensible album with tracks like Thirst, The Lonely Life and the diddy below, Paradise - my favorite song on the 15 track release. Cop it and check out iTunes for the deluxe version. It's not only background music while doing your weekend chores, it's good Canadian music.

citynews fades to black

After only 20 months on-air, Rogers has axed CityNews Channel. They were granted the licence in December 2008 and three years after, CityNews Channel was finally launched.

The station thanked all their viewers over the years and to urged them to continue to watch CITY-TV and to  listen to 680 News to keep informed with the latest news, weather and traffic. The channel  will carry a 680News feed till the end of June when it officially fades to black.
